LOCAL ARTIST IAN WILKINSON CAPTURES THE BEAUTY OF THE CAPRICORN COAST
‘Bush to Beach’ is the theme of a collection of art works by Ian Wilkinson who has a keen eye for the beauty of the Capricorn Coast, as well as outback locations in western Queensland. These images are the subject of Ian’s work featured in the Emu Park Gallery for their Christmas exhibition.
Ian is a self-taught artist who commenced his artistic journey as a young man working in the bush and spending many weeks working in isolation whilst building dams. His first work was a beautifully conceived pencil portrait of an Aboriginal man. When he moved to Yeppoon in late 1987 he joined a group of painters who came together once a week, under the guidance of George Sharp, working mostly in watercolours. Sadly George passed away and circumstances changed; Ian got caught up with many other things and didn’t paint for another 10 years.
Since returning to paint he has attended many workshops, working in many mediums including, oils, pastels and watercolour, and more recently in acrylics.
This current body of work captures the Capricorn Coastal areas and the landscapes of the Queensland bush, topics which will appeal to both local viewers, as well as visitors to our region.
Additionally the works of the members of the gallery, a collection of more than twenty artists, will also be part of the exhibition which opens on Sunday 26TH Nov. at the Emu Park Gallery at 6pm and will be open from this date until January 2018. The gallery is located between the Police Station and the Service Station in Emu Park.
